The handling of the Ford Focus has been become legendary. The Focus MK1 followed the Ford KA in showing that Ford is putting the fun back into driving. The technology and thought incorporated into the design along with the stiff body structure meant the Focus has been the benchmark for handling in the medium size car market. Although the Focus has rave reviews the truth is that there is a lot of wasted potential in the chassis.

The biggest factor which limits the performance of the standard Focus suspension is the springs. They are far too soft and do not need to be like this for offer a comfortable and good handling. Uprating to a set of H&R or Tein springs will transform the cars performance. Whereas the body would roll and pitch during cornering, acceleration and braking the car will be much more planted to the road. If your dampers/shock absorbers are more than 3 or 4 years old, we recommend fitting new dampers to go with the springs.

With regards to looks, the standard car sits far too high can be lowered by up to 60mm without any lose of comfort. Even 58mm lowering does not cause any ground clearance issues. We use TEIN springs on our demo car and have never found the car hitting the ground even when driving off road. 58mm sounds a lot but in reality it does not cause any problems and it transforms the look of the car.
