When changing your brake pads we strongly recommend you change your brake fluid as well, preferably with DOT5.1 standard fluid. Motul's brake fluid is used throughout the world of motorsport and is also economically priced. If you have a soft brake pedal under heavy braking or just in general driving, try changing your brake fluid before you change anything else. We recommend that you change your brake fluid every 6 months and more often if you are hard on your brakes. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time which makes it become compressible when you push the brake pedal hard. A fresh brake fluid change will give your brake pedal that positive feel. (Please note fresh brake fluid, ie brake fluid from a sealed container as even an opened bottle sitting on a shelf will absorb moisture)

A free flowing turbo-back exhaust system is essential if you want to get maximum power. If you prefer the sound and are not looking for maximum power then buy the cat-back option. Previous customers have found the resonated option offered by Milltek is almost silent like the OE exhaust so we recommend the non-resonated option if you would like a small increase in sound level over the standard exhaust. Biggest gain in power and response come by fitting the downpipe and sports cat assembly along with the cat back system
Golf MK5 GTI - Engine - Turbo/Intercooler
Forge have made their name making intercoolers for big power cars. The Golf MK5 GTI intercooler kit cuts intake temperatures even on standard cars and the more power you have the more intake temperatures are reduced. With the same boost level the engine will have more power and the engine parts will be under leass stress because of the lower temperatures. Forge intercooler kits come with all the parts required for installation and require no cutting of the car for them to fit.
Forge Motorsport make a range of blow off spacers which give you the tssshhhh sound of a blow off valve while still allowing the engine to run normally and not causing any fault codes. For the 197bhp Golf 5 GTI models there are 2 types available, fixed and switchable. There is a seperate spacer for the newer 240bhp model.
Forge Motorsport boost pressure valves. The standard Golf TFSI items can fail and especially when power is increased. These Forge valves are uprated to handle massive power outputs without the risk of failure. The are 2 different types available, 1 for the 197bhp cars and 1 for the 240bhp cars from 2007.

Bilstein PSS9 Coil Overs offer height adjustments and damping adjustment - For advanced drivers wanting complete adjusatbility in their suspension kit. (Please measure the diameter of the original damper body before ordering)
Bilstein B8 Dampers, when you want to give your Golf an extra level of performance without buying an adjustable suspension kit. The standard Golf GTI suspension is very good, but with a little extra investment improvements in response and control can always be made. Should be used with sports prings, we recommend H&R.
H&R Sport springs makes your car look better as well as giving your Golf GTI better steering response and higher braking, acceleration and cornering abilities. Can be used with original dampers or, for maximum performance, Bilstein B8 dampers.
The MK5 Golf has a much stiffer chassis then the MK4 Golf but there are still gains to made in chassis stiffness with the use of quality strut bars. Wiechers Sport compete in the World Touring Car Championship and the knowledge they gain from racing is directly used in their strut bars & roll cages. These bars will give a real and noticeable difference. You will feel that the car has faster turn-in into corners, there is greater grip from the front and the steering feel will also be improved.
Powerflex Suspension Bushes - VW Golf MK5 GTI
Powerflex Suspension bushes are more rigid than the standard bushes. Standard bushes are relatively soft to keep vibration to a minimum, the downside of this is that the suspension components can flex under hard cornering, braking and acceleration as well as making the steering feel less responsive. Powerflex bushes tighten up the feel of the chassis by reducing the flex in the suspension components. With Powerflex bushes you may feel a slight increase in vibration when driving the car as the Powerflex bushes are not as soft as the standard bushes.

Golf MK5 GTI Transmission/Gearbox/Driveline
To get the most from the Golf MK5 GTI a Quaife limited slip differential really is essential, even for cars with standard output but the more horsepower you have the more important the Quaife differential becomes. It allows use to use more of your cars power, more of the time. If you are pulling out of junctions, accelerating in a straight line or driving on the race track. The Quaife differential massively reduces wheel spin, simply put your foot down and go, no more power is wasted spinning the inside wheel. The Quaife diff is a fit and forget item and requires no more maintenance than the orginal VW item and comes with a lifetime warranty.
Forge Motorsport make a range of short shifting mechanisms for the 6 Speed VW cars including the MK5 Golf GTI. These short shifter untis are competely adjustable from zero reduction in shift movement to 40%. Reducing the distance you have to move the gear stick between shifts allows for more precise shifts and quicker gear changes giving faster acceleration.
